When you pray for others, are you asking for these 3 things?

When you pray for others, you should always ask God to:
  1. fill them with the knowledge of his will
  2. to give them wisdom and understanding
  3. to strengthen them with all power according to his glorious might

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.  Colossians 1: 9-11 NVI

God wants to pray for others, but we should not only focus on asking for blessings and help.

His Will

Always ask God to help them understand His will for their lives.  This has to do with direction. Too many people want to be blessed, but don’t really know what to do with that blessing.

Wisdom and Understanding

Ask God to give them wisdom and understanding.  We are buried with information.  We have access to lots of information, but people need to know what to do with that information.  People are lacking the wisdom to make the right decisions.

Strength and Courage

We need to ask God to give people the strength they need to endure life.  We all face problems and difficult situations and need that supernatural strength from God to help us move forward, in faith, and reach our purpose in life.

Sure, ask God to bless people, but I have found that many people, once they are blessed, don’t know what to do with it.  They don’t know what God wants them to do with that blessing (hint: to bless others).  They don’t have the wisdom to keep and multiply that blessing.  They don’t have the strength to face opposition; therefore, they can’t enjoy that blessing.

I encourage you today to constantly pray for others, but ask God to 1- let them know His will and purpose for their lives 2- give them the wisdom to make the right choices and keep them align to His will 3- the strength to face opposition.
